BONNEVILLE COUNTY - Two local government agencies end their battle against each other and in turn are re-opening a popular RV dumping spot.
Beeches corner off of Highway 26 and Ammon Road which was at the heart of the issue.
The Iona Bonneville Sewer District filed a $1.5 million lawsuit against Bonneville County about a year ago.
They claimed the county hadn't been paying their part since they hooked up to Beech's Corner and that now the line was damaged.
Both parties agreed they'd share the cost and hired an independent engineering expert.
The third party's report showed no damage was done to the line.
In fact, they say it was in fairly good shape for being more than 30 years old.
So, the sewer district dropped the lawsuit and came up with an agreement where the county will maintain Beeches Corner, flushing it every month during the season and that will compensate the sewer district for the publics use.
"From the county's perspective, should this litigation have ever been started? Perhaps not. Could it have been resolved sooner? Perhaps. But now we have the foundation for a brighter future for Beeches Corner," Bonneville County Prosecutor Dane Watkins said.
The Bonneville County Commissioners say Beeches Corner will open up this Memorial Day weekend.
And in about a year the county and Iona Bonneville Sewer District will meet to see how their deal is working out.
