Wyoming bear caught in Rozet had previous run-in

Associated Press - July 15, 2009 1:15 PM ET

ROZET, Wyo. (AP) - Wildlife managers say a bear that was captured near the northeast Wyoming town of Rozet last week had been caught two years ago after getting into household garbage near Sundance.

The state Game and Fish Department also says the black bear was 9 years old, not 3 as originally thought.

Game and Fish workers captured the bear near Rozet on Friday after it climbed a utility pole. It was released somewhere in the Big Horn Mountains.

Game and Fish biologist Heather O'Brien says department records show the bear was captured in August 2007 about five miles north of Sundance after foraging in garbage.

It was tagged and released near Cody, 225 miles east of Sundance and 190 miles east of Rozet.
