GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - The Campbell County Fire Department is seeking a partial fire ban for the county despite a relatively rainy and cool July.
Chief Don Huber says the department will ask county commissioners for the ban at their Tuesday meeting. He says he's expecting the area to dry up and create potential fire hazards.
Gillette has recorded more than 2 inches of rain in July, slightly more than the 30-year average.
The proposed ban would prohibit fireworks and open fires and would put careful restrictions on trash burning, charcoal fires, and cutting torches and welders.
Crook, Weston and Sheridan counties in northeastern Wyoming have already enacted fire bans.
The Wyoming state parks department this week banned open fires at Keyhole State Park in Crook County.
