BEAR LAKE COUNTY - A Bear Lake County Sheriff's deputy is dead after he rolled his car while trying to avoid a deer.

It happened early Wednesday morning on US 30 near the Idaho/Wyoming border in Bear Lake County.  Phillip Sorenson, 27, of Paris, Idaho, was driving west with his wife and  two children when he swerved to avoid a deer.  He went off the right shoulder, then back onto the road and rolled his 1988 Ford Bronco.

Three other passengers were in the Bronco: Michelle, 27, a four year old and a two year old.

Idaho State Police say no one was wearing their seatbelt. Phillip and the two children were ejected. All of the occupants were taken to Bear Lake Memorial Hospital.

Philip was flown to the University of Utah where he later died. The four-year-old was flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.

The road was blocked for three hours so crews could clear the wreck.

Bear Lake County Sheriff's deputies assisted ISP.
