Fair season is well underway for many of our communities.  It's a sign that summer is winding down and the fairgrounds are just getting busy.

If it's showing off your sheep or singing your heart out, you'll find something at the South Bannock County Fair this year.  Ashley Davis is 15-years-old and has been showing her sheep at the fair for nearly half her life.

"It's really fun to get in with all the other groups of kids and just try to compete against each other but have fun, its really fun," said Davis.

The South Bannock County Fair brings the community of Downey and surrounding towns together.  Just ask Lois Bybee.  She's been coming to the fair for more than three decades.

"The night they have the parade, you wouldn't think there would be that many kids in town you know?  And people, they come from all over and it's just fun," said Bybee.

Cowboy boots and country roots are this year's theme of the fair.  Local people have a chance to enjoy the company of one another in a safe environment.  "Where else can you go and let your kids run to the park and play?" said Bybee.

Davis says the event has its fair share of hard work but it brings out the best in people.  "It brings everybody together and we get to work and do everything that is fun and just hang out," said Davis.

The South Bannock County Fair wraps up on Saturday before moving to North Bannock County on Wednesday. 

Other fairs in our area are coming up.  The Power County Fair wraps up Sunday.

The North Bannock County Fair is August 12 - 15 in Pocatello.  The Bear Lake Fair and Oneida County Fair is August 10 - 15.

The Teton County Idaho Fair is August 11 - 15.  The Madison County Fair is August 13 - 15.

The Fremont County Fair is august 15 - 17 and the Eastern Idaho State Fair is September 5 - 12 in Blackfoot.
