BURLEY - The Aberdeen man arrested in connection with an apparent homicide in Raft River was arraigned in court Tuesday.
Gerry Salgado, 22, is charged with first-degree murder, enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, aggravated battery and grand theft.
Salgado is charged with the murder of Liopoldo Amescua, 25, of Rupert, who was found dead in the Raft River area Saturday evening.
Police say the meeting between Salgado and Amescua was pre-arranged. However, the purpose of the meeting has yet to be determined.
An autopsy was conducted on Amescua's body Tuesday, and the cause of death was determined to be "shooting in the head with a firearm."
Salgado was sent back to Cassia County for his court appearances.
He has been appointed a pubic defender and is being held without bail due to the nature of the charges against him.
Cassia County prosecutors are still determining whether to recommend the death penalty. They expect to have a decision made by the end of the week.
Salgado will be in court on October 2 for his preliminary hearing.
