RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) - Carbon County prosecutors say they won't file any charges after a 6-year-old boy accidentally shot his 4-year-old brother during a family camping trip.
The Carbon County Sheriff's Office says the boy suffered a gunshot wound Sept. 6 while at a campsite in the Medicine Bow National Forest south of Elk Mountain.
Sheriff Jerry Colson says the boy was shot in the left abdomen, and doctors have said he's expected to make a full recovery.
Prosecutors determined the shooting to be "an unfortunate accident."
The Sheriff's Office says the boys' father was shooting the pistol at targets and then set the loaded weapon on a truck tailgate.
The 6-year-old picked up the loaded weapon, and it discharged and struck the 4-year-old. Colson says no adults saw the shooting and the exact circumstances aren't known.
