CARIBOU COUNTY - A former City Clerk is being accused of embezzling $170,000 over five year period.

Caribou County Prosecutor Gregg Haney said the investigation began in February when Joell Thompson didn't show up for an audit.

Thompson then indicated to the Mayor there would be some problems.

Mayor William Lester contacted the Sheriff's Office in Caribou County and the Clerk resigned that day.

Thompson is being charged with two counts of grand theft where she could face up to 14 years per count for prison time.

She'll be in court next Wednesday for her first appearance.
