LANDER, Wyo. (AP) - A Riverton woman accused of strangling her newborn daughter is scheduled to make her first appearance in state District Court next week.
The clerk's office of the Ninth Judicial District Court in Lander says Lorene Quist Gines will be arraigned Oct. 22.
The 21-year-old faces a charge of first-degree murder for allegedly strangling her baby with a string shortly after giving birth Sept. 8.
A pathologist ruled the death a homicide caused by strangulation and suffocation.
Gines remains in the Fremont County Detention Center on Tuesday with bail set at $500,000.
Public defender Kerri Johnson did not immediately return a call seeking comment on the charge against her client. Johnson declined to comment on the case last month.
