AMERICAN FALLS - The decision to pass a $395,000 levy in American Falls is in the hands of voters.
The plant facility levy is used to maintain the school buildings.
It's renewed every five years and for the last twenty-five years, voters have approved it.
Superintendent Ron Bolinger reads off some of the items on the district's wish list, things he's hoping will one day come true.
"It's very important because it's part of the revenue stream that we have and especially in these days where we're being cutback on state funding, this money is very important for us to maintain and keep our building in a condition to maintain a good learning environment," said Ron Bolinger, Superintendent, District 381.
Every year, the American Falls School District does one big project. This past year, half of the levy money was spent on fixing the roof.
"It needed it. The building was built in 1965 and it needed a total re-roof," said Bolinger.
For some voters, that need is apparent.
"This vote is for the maintenance of the schools, from what I understand, it helps keep the roofs for leaking and that sort of thing so it is important," said Nanette Spangler, Voting "Yes."
"It's something the school needs so anything to help them. I have a couple of grandkids in school so why not?" explained Al Longoria, In favor of the levy.
Another bonus, Power County Assessor, Douglas Glascock, said is no change in taxes.
"Actually, the amount they're asking for is basically the same as it's been in the past so they're really shouldn't be a tax increase, it should be about the same as it's been in the past. It may even be a little less, "said Douglas Glascock, Power County Assesor.
But, the fate of the levy..
"You never know, but we're hopeful that we continue to have the support," said Bolinger.
... Isn't decided just yet...
Voting is open until 8 pm. Polling places are located at the Administrative Offices on Fort Hall Avenue, the Raft River Store at Exit 15 on Interstate 86 and the Pocatello Regional Airport.
