Sweetwater County seizes 4 neglected horses

Associated Press - October 16, 2009 1:05 PM ET

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) - The Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office has seized four horses that investigators say were left neglected in corrals north of Rock Springs.

Maj. Dennis Claman of the Sheriff's Office says the department seized the horses on Thursday. He says county deputies and animal control officers first heard reports earlier this month that the horses weren't being fed or cared for.

Patrol deputies, animal control officers, and a county range officer collected the horses and transported them to a facility to receive appropriate care.

Claman says that livestock neglect issues become particularly important as winter approaches. Horses must have adequate feed and water to maintain their body temperature in cold weather.
