AMMON - It's a disease with no cure - so many questions going unanswered. Rett Syndrome is a neurological disorder that stops the brain from corresponding with muscles. The Bell family, from Ammon, have to deal with this disorder on a daily basis, but they're working to do something about it.

"The prom, wedding, grandchildren. I think just all that, just it flashes, it's gone, it's not in the future," said mother, Kalli Bell.

Her daughter Lauryn is 10-years-old. She can't run, walk, or even talk, but she can make a difference. Lauryn's one of many children living a life with Rett Syndrome. At first, Bell thought this was it.

"That part, that dream, that hope for your child dies, it's gone, and you won't get it back."

But Bell reached a turning point...

"We came across a quote in a Rett Syndrome handbook... 'You could complain that rose bushes have thorns, or you could rejoice that thorn bushes have roses. Life is more than what you're handed, it's what you do with what's placed in your hands.'"

Bell is collecting thousands of letters, all rallying behind girls like her daughter, Lauryn, and friend, Baylee, fighting for a cure.

Bell is planning to send hundreds of thousands of letters to Oprah, asking her to get behind their search for a cure to help save her daughter, her daughter's friends - everyone affected by this disorder.

"It doesn't matter the nationality, religion, race, we are as one, fighting for one cause."

A fellow-mother, dealing with Rett Syndrome in her daughter, Kristy Jorgensen, said, "I was inspired by Kalli and all the work that she has put into this and that so many people have come together to make this a possibility for a cure for our daughters."

With Oprah behind them, Bell believes she may get her one wish.

"If she would just stand and put her arms around me and say I love you mom, that would be great!"

On Saturday, October 17, at Hillcrest High School, folks can be apart of the 'Write and Raffle for Rett Syndrome.' Bell, along with many others, will be writing letters to Oprah, as well as raffling off celebrity-prizes, all in an effort to raise money and awareness about Rett Syndrome. The 'Write and Raffle,' starts at 4pm and goes until 10pm.
