CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A school annex in the tiny town of Albin used for physical education, music, as a library and computer laboratory could end up being demolished because of concerns over the cost of maintaining it.
The School Facilities Commission wants school districts statewide to eliminate 6.7 million square feet of building space to save $17 million annually.
The commission has notified Laramie County School District 2 that the state will no longer pay for maintenance of the annex in Albin after June 30.
Officials say maintaining the annex costs about $120,000 annually.
So district officials must decide whether to keep the annex and pay for its upkeep, transfer the annex to the town of Albin, or demolish it.
The annex was built in the 1960s and is adjacent to Albin High School, which closed several years ago and is slated for demolition.
Albin Elementary School Principal Sue Stevens says the annex is now used by the school's 53 elementary students.
