TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - A south-central Idaho man has been fined $2,050 and had his fishing license revoked for four years after poaching three sturgeon from the Snake River.
Thomas B. Withers of Buhl was sentenced Monday in 5th District Court by Judge Randy Stoker.
The Times-News reports that Stoker also ordered the 31-year-old Withers to serve four years probation and perform 40 hours of community service.
Withers pleaded guilty in August to a felony charge of sturgeon poaching.
Withers was accused of catching three sturgeon from the Snake River in June and keeping them in his bathtub while he tried to figure out how to fillet them. Idaho Fish and Game officials told the court that after he couldn't figure it out, he dumped the fish in a nearby ditch.
Harvesting sturgeon is illegal in Idaho.
