IDAHO FALLS - The Sonic restaurant on the corner of Pancheri and Yellowstone Avenue has been closed for good after five years at that location.
The closure came as a spur of the moment decision Friday afternoon by owner, Dave Hall.
Hall says he and the California-based owner of the land have been in a dispute for some time over rent costs.
The land owner wanted to raise the rent, but Hall did not want to pay a higher fee, so the land owner served Hall eviction notice Friday through the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office.
At 4:00 p.m. Hall held an emergency meeting with his employees saying they needed to close the store immediately.
Hall owns 28 Sonic restaurants in Southeastern Idaho and Utah and has offered all the employees other positions in either the Ammon location on 17th Street or the Rexburg location.
He also assured all his employees they will be fully paid for their work up until the closure.
Hall is already looking at other locations for a Sonic either in Idaho Falls or Rigby.
