CHUBBUCK - The second man that escaped from the Power County Jail Sunday morning was arrested just after 11 a.m. Monday.
Gilberto "Hippie" Delgado was arrested on Park Lawn Avenue in Chubbuck. When Local News 8's Michelle Costa arrived, handcuffs were being placed on Delgado.
Power County Sheriff Jim Jeffries said a concerned citizen called in saying someone was trying to break into a home on Mesquite Drive. When police arrived, Delgado tried to run.
Law enforcement transported Delgado to Power County where his fellow inmate and escapee Rodolfo Ortega was in court.
Ortega had his charges revised. He is now charged with escape, kidnapping and battery on a certain personnel, all felonies. Delgado will potentially have the same charges.
The sheriff's office said the men are accused of attacking a female corrections deputy Sunday around 10:30 a.m. in order to escape.
The men were in the recreation room when Delgado wanted to go to the library to check out law books. Instead, he locked himself in. When the deputy went to let out Delgado, Ortega attacked her, knocking the officer down.
The pair pulled the deputy into the library, took her keys and took off.
The sheriff said before escaping through the library door, they managed to get changed into their street clothes.
Ortega was arrested Sunday night. Meanwhile, a man hunt began for Delgado. Law enforcement said both men had been convicted of violent crimes.
Police are still investigating if the escape was planned.
