A BYU-Idaho girl was hit by a car while crossing the street in Rexburg Friday night.

The accident happened at the intersection of 2nd East 7th South near the Rexburg LDS Temple and Aspen Village Apartments.

Rexburg Police say the girl had activated the yellow flashing lights and was in the crosswalk when she was struck.

Rexburg Police Department, Captain Randy Lewis, says speed was not a factor in the accident.  Lewis says it was a rainy night and the driver did not see the flashing lights.

The driver received a failure to yield citation.  The young woman was taken to EIRMC with non life threatening injuries.  She has since been treated and released.
