SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - An anesthesiology professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine has been appointed as chairwoman and liaison for the medical school's Women in Medicine program.

Dr. Harriet W. Hopf will also serve as director of mentoring in the medical school's faculty administration office. She replaces Dr. Mary A. Murray, a pediatrics professor.

Hopf joined the faculty at the University of Utah in 2006. Before that, she was professor of anesthesia and surgery at the University of California, San Francisco.

The Women in Medicine program was created by the Association of American Medical Colleges to improve the pathways for women in medicine and science to contribute fully to academic medicine.
