BONNEVILLE COUNTY - A Hillcrest High School student has been arrested for carrying a handgun onto school property.
The Bonneville County Sheriff's office says the unidentified 17-year old boy was arrested on Thursday after the school's Resource Officer received a tip the student was carrying a weapon.
The Resource Officer located the boy and found a .380 caliber handgun in his possession. He was taken to the 3-B Juvenile Detention Facility. He is now being charged with carrying a weapon on school grounds and having a handgun under the age of 18, both are misdemeanors.
Officers say they weren't aware of any threats made toward students.
School Administrators say the student recently transferred to Hillcrest from out of state. He now has been suspended and administrative action is pending.
