Board suggests rules for Jackson balloon company

Associated Press - November 1, 2009 11:05 AM ET

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - Teton County planners have voted to recommend that a commercial hot-air-balloon company in Jackson be allowed to continue operation despite complaints about it.

The Teton County Planning Commission made the recommendation so long as the owner of Wyoming Balloon Co. adheres to certain restrictions to limit noise violations and unauthorized landings.

Residents near the company said balloons have been intrusive and made unauthorized landings on private property. They've also said the balloons are noisy.

Wyoming Balloon is seeking to nearly double its current 2,000 acres of operating area to give its pilots more places to land and to reduce the need to make emergency landings on private property.

The company's application will be considered next by the Teton County Board of Commissioners, which has final say on the matter.
