RIGBY - It's a labor of love for those who protect and serve the community.
Students at Rigby High School are putting their studies into practical use, as they help build a new police station in Rigby.
Every day, students from the woodshop class are spending two hours at a time helping with various aspects of the project.
"Mainly they've been doing a lot of the framework and the sheet rock," said Landon Clousing with the Rigby Police Department who is overseeing the project.
The new police station is being built inside a portion of the old Rigby Rec Center.
It will feature brand-new office facilities, a conference room, and a state-of-the-art evidence locker, along with more storage than the department's current facility.
Thanks to the help of the high school students, the project is moving along at a good pace.
"(The project) helps them learn better by doing it, and they're all doing a really good job with it," said Clousing.
Work started at the site at the beginning of October, and so far has cost about $20,000.
The Rigby Police Department hopes to have the new station completed and ready for use by the end of November.
