BLACKFOOT - Blackfoot High School students were evacuated from the school and packed into the Performing Arts Center because of a broken hot water pipe that burst Wednesday morning.
The hot water set off the fire alarm around 9 a.m. and the students treated the situation like a fire drill. They all exited to the football field but because it is cold outside, they were moved indoors to the auditorium.
The hot water pipe that broke was connected to the bathroom in the sophomore hall. The principal said there was a substantial amount of water that was unleashed. Students say it smells pretty bad.
School officials said they were able to clean up the water and are working on the damaged ceiling tiles. They expect to have everything back to normal by 11:30 a.m.
The school was built in 1955. However, the portion of the building the pipe broke at was built in 1993.
