CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal is on a trip to the Middle East to visit Wyoming soldiers.
Freudenthal said during a Tuesday telephone news conference from Iraq that he's met with Wyoming soldiers at Camp Virginia, a U.S. military transit facility in Kuwait.
He says he's also met with Gen. Raymond Odierno, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Christopher Hill.
Wyoming has about 800 Wyoming Guard soldiers and airmen deployed to the Middle East. Most of them are in Kuwait, and most of them started yearlong deployments in April.
Freudenthal says he wanted to visit the Wyoming troops at about the halfway point in their deployment. He encourages Wyoming residents to show their support for the troops overseas.
