Across America many will honor our servicemen Wednesday. One Rexburg woman is so passionate about the holiday she decided to start celebrating early.
Not only is Tami Hymas using her business as a platform to honor local veterans, she's also gotten others involved.
Tami's Salon hasn't been open very long, but that hasn't stopped Hymas from organizing a special show of thanks for Veterans Day. “It's even before my grand opening, but the veterans are more important,” Hymas says with a smile.
“Everyone protested us being in Vietnam,” said Tami’s Salon client, Richard Lusk. Coming from a time and war when Americans didn’t show any appreciation to the military, Lusk says it’s nice to see a change.
“People back home didn't realize we were fighting for them,” he said. “Now they finally do.”
Tami Hymas comes from a family of veterans. Her father and even grandfathers served in the military. The first five servicemen to come through her salon get a free haircut Wednesday.
“It's nice to see the community giving back this way,” said Vietnam Veteran, Bob Butler.
“This is my opportunity to say 'thank-you' and really let our local veterans know that Rexburg cares,” Hymas said.
It's a show support any vet would appreciate. “It really makes you feel a lot better than you did 40 years ago,” Lusk said.
“Rexburg’s a small community so it tends to be very patriotic,” Butler said.
Each of the nine participating Rexburg businesses will be offering a variety of discounts and promotions Wednesday.
The businesses participating are: Tami’s Salon, Circle of Love, Craigo’s Gourmet Pizza Co., Main St. Diamonds, Porter’s Office Product, The Cocoa Bean and Cupcake Café, Florence’s Exquisite Candies, We’Re Twisted Pretzels and BRC’s Frozen Custard.
