Press Release

RIGBY ‑ Traffic signals will be turned off at the intersection of Idaho 48 (First South Street) and the U.S. 20 business loop (State Street) in Rigby on Monday (Nov. 16), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Crews will de‑activate the signals Monday morning in preparation for rounding off the southeast corner of the intersection. The intersection of Idaho 48 and State Street is not wide enough for northbound trucks to safely turn east on Idaho 48 enroute to potato warehouses and other businesses in and outside town.

Crews have installed a new signal pole to the east of the current one at the southeast corner and will remove the old pole during reconstruction. Stop signs will be installed to create a four‑way stop at the intersection. Work is expected to take five days.

Expansion of the intersection is part of the Idaho 48 improvement project between Rigby High School and the Yellowstone Highway, which is scheduled for completion by Thanksgiving. The project consists of widening the corridor to three lanes, adding a right‑turn bay to the east (main) high school entrance and installing curb, gutter, sidewalk and approaches between the high school and 3rd West in Rigby.

The project also includes resurfacing the highway from 3rd West to the Yellowstone Highway east of Rigby. The contractor will seal‑coal the new roadway next year.

HK Contractors of Idaho Falls is the contractor on this $2.9 million project.
