POCATELLO – The man who admitted to robbing an Inkom bank was sentenced to 20 years behind bars Monday in the Bannock County Courthouse.
In April 2009, Melvin Hebdon, 33, walked into the Ireland Bank, handed the teller a note, and ran off with a bag of money. He was later captured in Oregon.
During the sentencing hearing, the defense attorney said Hebdon has a mental illness. However, Judge David Nye said Hebdon has spent a majority of his life in prison, jail or on probation, and nothing seems to deter him.
The judge ordered 10 years of the sentencing to be fixed. The other 10 are indeterminate. He also ordered Hebdon to pay $4,000 in restitution.
