DRIGGS - The Teton County Idaho Sheriff calls it the, 'silent witness.' It's new technology helping officers in Teton County fight crime.
"People putting on make-up because they know we're coming and they're going to be on camera," joked Sheriff Tony Liford.
Drivers, law-breakers, BEWARE! The Teton County Sheriff's Office has some new back-up in town - a tiny camera...
"Sheriff's office and police departments work solo, so they're alone," said Liford. "They don't have anybody else with them and this is kind of the - somebody called it the silent witness."
It's new technology each officer wears when they're out patrolling.
"It's an impartial witness to what's going on," said Liford.
Rather than spending $5,000 on video cameras for each patrol car, the Sheriff went for the wearable cams, hitting at about $150 each with the capability to move with the officer.
"These are on the deputies and they go with them into the home - where the action is."
The new device is already paying off.
"Somebody had made an erroneous allegation that one of the deputies had done something that they thought was illegal and they were quite adamant about it," said Liford. "We looked at the video and the video said otherwise, and that was pretty much the end of it."
So next time you're passing through the small town of Driggs and you get pulled over - smile - because you're on cop camera!
