RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) - Some residents of the Riverton area expressed concern about a proposed agreement between the city and the Northern Arapaho Tribe to cooperate on common interests.
The city and tribe have agreed to work together on issues, such as zoning and land-use planning and economic development efforts.
Riverton Mayor John Vincent says the proposed agreement is meant to help the city and tribe work together without distrust.
Northern Arapaho Tribe co-chairman Norman Willow said he wants to create a better life for his people through cooperation with the city.
But during a public meeting Monday night, some expressed fears about being forced under the jurisdiction of the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Willow said his tribe is not trying to come into Riverton and take control.
