BANNOCK COUNTY - A nurse at the Bannock County Sheriff's Office will no longer have a job after being accused of misusing a controlled substance.
Not many details were released at a press conference Thursday afternoon at Sheriff Lorin Nielsen's office, but here is what we do know.
The investigations by the Tri-County Sheriff's Association began about a month and a half ago.
Margaret Robinson Kirby of Grace was employed by the Correctional Healthcare Management as a nurse practitioner, a part of their six person medical staff.
Kirby is charged with four felonies: two counts of obtaining a controlled substance, by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception or subterfuge.
Along with two counts of adulterating a drug, which in this case, meant changing out a drug for one of a lower quality.
Sheriff Nielsen said abusing controlled substances is an ever-growing problem in our area.
"They're controlled chemicals for a reason. So, what may be good for one person may be fatal for another so that's the criminal involvement. We have had investigations, but this close to home, not so much,” said Sheriff Lorin Nielsen, Bannock County.
Kirby will be arraigned on December 2nd and we should learn more details at that time.
