DRIGGS - Teton County Fire District responded to a fire Thursday night at the Old Ford Garage, most recently the home to Western Heritage Timber.
Western Heritage Timber was served a cease and desist order by Teton County in August. In the cease and desist order, County Attorney Kathy Spitzer cited concerns raised by Fire Marshal Bret Campbell, that the business lacked fire protection required for the business legally to occupy the building. In addition, the building wasn’t properly zoned for the lumber company’s industrial use.
In the past few days, the lumber outside of the building was removed. But, as was visible when firefighters broke into one of the garages, there was lumber inside. It is not yet known where or how the fire started.
Western Heritage Timber filed suit against the owner of the building, the Development Company, in mid September, alleging that the Development Company misrepresented the property. Western Heritage is seeking about $140,000 that was spent to move the lumber in addition to $86,000 in administrative, labor and remodeling costs.
