Boise man's trial in shooting delayed

Associated Press - November 24, 2009 2:34 PM ET

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - The trial of a Boise man charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of another man in a pool hall parking lot has been postponed.

Jeremy J. Hobbs has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and says he acted in self defense when he fatally shot Ahmed Cepalo outside of Backstreet Billiards in March.

A judge recently agreed to delay a trial in the case, which was supposed to begin this month, so attorneys have more time to review evidence of an undisclosed medical condition that was recently discovered.

Hobbs possesses a valid concealed weapons permit and told police he was acting to protect himself. Cepalo, 29, died in the parking lot from five gunshot wounds, two in his hip and three in his back.

The trial has been rescheduled to start on April 12.
