Associated Press - November 25, 2009 2:05 PM ET

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - U.S. Sen. John Barrasso and Rep. Cynthia Lummis are headed to the Middle East to spend Thanksgiving with the Wyoming National Guard troops deployed over there.

Wyoming has more than 800 National Guard troops serving overseas. They include members of the 115th Fires Brigade, who are overseeing bases in Kuwait and security for convoys heading into and leaving Iraq.

Earlier this month, Gov. Dave Freudenthal spent a week traveling to Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan and visiting with Wyoming Guard troops.

The Middle East visit by Barrasso and Lummis comes less than a week before President Obama is scheduled to announce his plans for U.S. policy in Afghanistan.
