Audio from a heated interview with Senator Larry Craig from an interview at a Minneapolis police station after he was arrested for lewd conduct was just released.
Things become heated after the investigating officer repeatedly asks Craig to stop disrespecting him by not telling the truth.
After the interview, Craig pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct.
All of this comes in the middle of Craig resigning from his committee positions and several fellow republican senators calling for him to completely resign from the senate.
Craig: "I don't, ah, I am not gay, I don't do these kinds of things and...
Investigating Sergeant Dave Karsnia: "It doesn't matter, I don't care about sexual preference or anything like that. Here's your stuff back sir. I don't care about sexual preference."
It is the second time this week we've heard our senior senator deny he's gay.
This most recent denial comes off a taped interview from a Minneapolis police department.
Craig was arrested in June on suspicion he was soliciting lewd conduct in the men's room at the Minneapolis airport.
After being read his rights, Craig agrees to recount what happened in the bathroom.
Craig: "I sit down, urn, to go to the bathroom and ah, you said our feet bumped. I believe they did, ah, because I reached down and scooted over and urn, the next thing I knew, under the bathroom divider comes a card that says police. Now, urn, (sigh) that's about as far as I can take it."
The officer, Sergeant Dave Karsnia, accuses Craig of leaving a part of his story out.
He alleges Craig swiped his hand underneath the stall divider.
Karsnia asks Craig to start his story over again.
Karsnia: "Well, you're not being truthful with me, I'm kinda disappointed in you senator. I'm real disappointed in you right now."
Craig starts over.
This time he says he reached down with his right hand to grab a piece of toilet paper...
Craig: "Well, we can dispute that. I'm not going to fight you in court and I, I reached down with my right hand to pick up the paper."
Karsnia: "But I'm telling you that I could see that so I know that's your left hand. Also I could see a gold ring on this finger, so that's obvious it was the left hand."
After Craig continues to deny it was his left hand, the officer becomes increasingly upset and frustrated with the senator.
Karsnia: "I just, I just, I guess, I guess I'm gonna say I'm just disappointed in you sir.
I'm just really am. I expect this from the guy that we get out of the hood. I mean,
people vote for you."
Craig: "yes, they do. (inaudible)"
Karsnia: "unbelievable, unbelievable."
Craig: "I'm a respectable person and I don't do these kinds of."
Close to the end of the interview, the officer asks Craig if he has been successful in that bathroom before? Craig responds that he absolutely has not.
