A former Fremont County, Idaho deputy has been arrested and charged with two felony counts of grand larceny and possession of a controlled substance. The charges are for stealing cash, and prescription drugs from the county.
The Sheriff's Office first became suspicious of 25-year-old Bradley Holjeson when one inmate who had posted bond for his case pled guilty, and then asked for a reimbursement. Only problem is, the money wasn't there.
Fremont County Sheriff Ralph Davis said as soon as they started investigating it became pretty clear the person behind the missing money was in-house. It was soon after that investigators discovered prescription narcotics were missing.
Holjeson was quick to resign after being interviewed several times for the investigation, and moved to Boise last month.
Holjeson's brother and sister-in-law both work in law enforcement. Sheriff Davis says they are shocked by what has happened.
"They feel like it doesn't reflect very well on them," said the sheriff. "They are people of great integrity, and their integrity is not in question."
The Fremont County Prosecuting Attorney has appointed a special prosecutor in this case, because it is not their policy to prosecute their own employees.
