Closed highways, evacuated homes and the Idaho Falls Bomb Squad. This was the story last Friday when the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office says a suspicious suitcase was left on the side of North Yellowstone Highway.

The suspect was detained for hours and now he's trying to make some cash selling the luggage online.

The Rigby man is posting his story and infamous suitcase on the popular classifieds website, craigslist.

Monday, he got the bag back but it's costing him $53 in fines.

Barry Woodhouse thought Friday's bomb scare was put in the past.

That was until his suitcase returned on his front porch, along with a fine.

So, he's selling the suitcase to pay the penalty.

"We were headed to the dump Friday morning. We cleaned out the basement," Woodhouse explained.

Little did Barry Woodhouse know his trash would become the lead story that day.

He hadn't dusted off the suitcase since 1998 after its journey and his LDS mission to New Mexico.

10 years later it put the Bonneville County Sheriff's deputies to work.

"They asked if I knew anything about the suitcase. Right then, I knew one of the suitcases must have fallen off of my trailer," Woodhouse recalled.

Stranded on the side of the road, the suitcase was called in as ‘suspicious.' Causing deputies to shut down North Yellowstone Highway, evacuate homes and bring the Idaho Falls Bomb Squad to the scene.

"I said, ‘Why? What was in it?' And he said, ‘That's what we want to know from you.' And I said ‘I don't know, I didn't even open it.'

Deputies detained Woodhouse for more than two hours following every move he made.

"I thought it was a little crazy of course I didn't feel like I was a bomber or didn't look like a bomber," he said.

The Bonneville County Sheriffs say they take each case separately and when they get the initial call their job is to take every precaution to protect the public.

On that note, Woodhouse agrees.

"It's the second you put your guard down, something bad is going to happen," he said.

But he says the ticket? He doesn't deserve.

They're citing him for an unsafe load and causing a hazard for vehicles on the highway.

So on craigslist he hopes to cash in his trash and get his $53 back.

"I'd keep the suitcase for the memory but it's a bad memory. Anyone else that wants it can have it," Woodhouse said.

He says he still doesn't want to pay the $53 for the whole episode.

He's had a couple of people offer him a few bucks for the suitcase but so far it's still up for sale.
