SHELLEY, Idaho -- It's amazing to see all the accomplishments of the high school seniors who win the United Dairymen of Idaho Distinguished Student Award. This week's winner is no different. Shelley High School senior Kayla Butler is involved in everything from the yearbook to key club to piano festivals.
As editor of the Shelley High School yearbook, Kayla Butler spends a lot of time at the computer in the yearbook office. She was involved in yearbook last year too and loves it.
"I'm always excited to see them go to the pages that they're on and be like, 'oh my gosh they got me on this page', and have them be excited to be in the yearbook, and that people can see those pictures that are them," Kayla said.
Kayla has to make a lot of important decisions as editor. It involves artistic, literary and computer skills, as well the ability to get along with the rest of the staff and teach them. With those skills and personality it's no wonder Kayla has perfect 4.0 GPA.
"When you're focusing on your grades it kind of helps you to also be prepared for college to get good grades, and I just feel accomplished when I get good grades in school," Kayla said.
In addition everything else, Kayla is an accomplished pianist. Her musical talent has helped her achieve high honors in festivals and pageants.
"I love to play the piano. I have been playing for twelve years and it is just something that is fun," Kayla said. I like going home and even if I have had a bad day or a really good day, I just like to go and play and just let my music come and enjoy just being kind of quiet or playing a loud piece and just letting it all out," Kayla said.
Kayla is also involved in all kinds of school clubs and service organizations. She enjoys being active and advises other students to do the same.
"Find something that you really love, whether it be a sport, or a musical instrument, or a even just a club, or an organization like yearbook, and to just to do that and have fun with it," Kayla said.
