IDAHO FALLS - In an effort to make up for a $2.1 million shortfall, Idaho Falls School District officials have identified seven areas they can make cuts to save money. So far, these actions have achieved $560,000 in savings.
But what about the other $1.5 million? The district found an additional 17 possible cuts, which include getting rid of positions, limiting field trips and saying goodbye to some extracurricular activities.
But will this be enough for the district to not declare a financial emergency?
Tuesday night, school officials will meet with the public to address the funds shortage, hear what programs and resources are of the most value for its taxpayers and if they need to declare an emergency.
The meeting will be held at Taylorview Junior High School, 350 Castlerock, at 7 p.m.
The public hearing will give people an opportunity to learn more about the districts cuts and potential slashing.
They will also discuss if a financial emergency should be declared. Doing so will make it possible for the district to renegotiate parts of their Negotiated Master Contract, including salaries and benefits.
At the meeting, patrons will be able to give comments by filling out an input form or address the school board for a maximum of three minutes.
