WASHINGTON DC - Two Idaho Falls teens took the top prize at the National History Day competition in Washington, D.C., Thursday.

Marissa Lords and Tyler Stevens are 8th graders at Rocky Mountain Middle School. They spent much of the last six months working on their project which they had find someone in history who made a difference.

During their research, they found an unknown kid who helped buy war stamps during World War II. In the process, the teens ended up learning about 500 other people and how one person could make such a big difference.

Their hard work paid off Thursday when they won gold in their category, beating teens from across the country.

Their project was on display at the Smithsonian Museum. Marissa's grandmother said there is talk about putting their project in a museum.
