NAMPA, Idaho (AP) - The headmaster of the fourth public charter school to open in the southwest Idaho town of Nampa says 557 students in kindergarten through ninth grades are enrolled for classes scheduled to begin in August.
Val Bush says the Nampa Classical Academy will be the third largest charter school in Idaho when it opens this fall.
The school, which plans to add an additional classroom each year until it includes kindergarten through 12th grades, will house students in portable classrooms for the first year.
Bush says the school will include a traditional curriculum, with a focus on western civilization, and require students to take classes in Latin beginning in the sixth grade.
More than 30 charter schools have been established by teachers, parents and community members in Idaho since 1998.
