IDAHO FALLS - A group of local teachers got a pleasant surprise Wednesday from one of the area's biggest retailers.

Sam's Club awarded 10 lucky teachers at Hawthorne Elementary School gift cards worth $100 each to either Sam's Club or Wal-Mart.

Those receiving the gifts were notified via a drawing in the school's library Wednesday afternoon.

The gift cards are designed to be used for buying school supplies.

"I can buy books for my classroom, I can buy paper for my classroom, I can buy a lot of the things that aren't supplied by the school district because of the budget cuts and things like that," said Callie Ford, a 1st Grade Teacher at Hawthorne who has been teaching there for 23 years.

Ford and the other nine teachers chosen from the school will also have their names put into a nationwide drawing for more education awards from Wal-Mart and Sam's Club.
