IDAHO FALLS - We've got one election behind us, but a local school district will soon be holding a bond election. Idaho Falls School District 91 is asking for $84.5 million to pay for improvements and new schools.

Many of the schools are over 50 years old. The district knows major repairs need to take place to get them up to date. With the $84.5 million, they say it's more cost effective to start over.

They want to rebuild four elementary schools and build a brand new school. They say the aging buildings aren't energy efficient and distracting to the students. They say with low construction costs and bond rates, now is the time to act.

"There is a window of opportunity financially for us to do work that will have to be done at some point in time, and to get that work done now at a point in time where it is the best value for the tax payer," said Superintendent George Boland.

The district is holding two public meetings to give patrons and parents a chance to learn more about the projects, as well as ask questions and see conceptual drawings of the work planned at different schools.

The meetings are Wednesday at Theresa Bunker Elementary School and Thursday at Ethel Boyes Elementary School. Both meetings start at 7 p.m.  The election will be held on November 17.
