Gillette mulls law to ban bow hunting in the city

Associated Press - November 8, 2009 1:45 PM ET

GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - The Gillette City Council plans to decide whether bow hunting within city limits is legal.

City Attorney Charlie Anderson says there is nothing in city law clearly written prohibiting it, and that hunters have been asking whether they can bag antelope in town.

In a memo to the mayor and city council, Anderson says an ordinance forbidding hunting would simplify the matter and enhance public safety.

A Gillette law says "no discharging firearms," but hunters wonder whether that includes a bow and arrows.

Councilman Everett Boss says the city will have to get a definition of whether a bow is a firearm.
