AMMON – Thursday was the night Twilight fans all over Eastern Idaho had been waiting for.
New Moon, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2008 blockbuster Twilight, premiered with a midnight showing at Edwards Cinemas in Ammon.
Hundreds of “Twi-hard’s”, as they are called, lined up outside the theatre doors, some as early at 10:30 a.m.
“It’s a lot better than last year, because they had a lot of snow on the ground and this year has been a lot warmer and nicer,” said Lindsay Summers, who was first in line.
The colder weather was also the motivation behind the makeshift campground set up by Brandi Harker and friends.
“Land year we were totally unprepared, we didn’t have anything, and we were calling people for favors to bring camp chairs, hot chocolate, and other stuff, so this year we went all out,” said Harker.
The long wait in line was also a chance for Harker to bond with her fellow Twilight fanatics.
Last year, Harker made friends with another fan, Angie McDonald. Since then they have stayed in touch, and even attended Twilight parties together.
“When my baby was born, I called her, and we’ve now we’re seeing the movie together, all because we like the same thing,” said McDonald.
Board games, cards, pizza deliveries, and even dancing could be seen coming from the line.
Others discussed their allegiances to various characters, namely two, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black, played by Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner respectively.
But no matter the favorite character, there was one thing most in line agreed upon. Waiting for hours in line with humans was worth it, just for the chance at 130 minutes with their favorite vampire.
“It’s just amazing to be here, and we’re so excited,” said Brandi Harker.
Edwards Cinemas opened up all 14 screens for early showings of New Moon.
Experts estimate New Moon’s weekend premiere will gross more than $90 million, possibly making it the 2nd most profitable premiere of 2009 behind Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
