POCATELLO - We've been pretty lucky so far this year when it comes to the winter weather. We haven't seen too many horrible snow storms yet but they are on the way if we like it or not.
If you haven't gotten your car ready for winter weather you're not alone. At Commercial Tire Friday customers were waiting up to three hours. All to have their cars in tip top shape for whatever Mother Nature may bring.
"Your battery up to check, number one. You want to check out antifreeze and make sure you're not going to freeze up on the antifreeze. Make sure you've got good tires to make sure you're not sliding into curbs," said Jason Payne, Assistant Manager at Commercial Tire Pocatello.
Roads might be clear and easy to drive on now but that can all change in a matter of minutes. It is why mechanics suggest giving your car the attention it needs sooner rather than later.
"Keep everybody safe on the road and maintain your car so it will last longer," said Payne.
In addition to checking your battery, antifreeze and tires, make sure you have your lights checked, oil levels up to par and have your system checked from top to bottom. Also, don't forget to be extra watchful once you get your car out on the road.
"Take some extra time. Be safe and be mindful of what everyone is doing around you because there are a lot of issues when the first snow flies, people forget," said Payne.
In addition to all the maintenance on your cars themselves there are things you should keep in your cars for the winter months like flashlights and sleeping bags. For a complete list you can log on to 511.idaho.gov
