CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced a former Wyoming state trooper to serve 15 years in prison for kidnapping a truck driver in what prosecutors say was an aborted murder plot. Franklin Ryle said he intended to stage an accident involving the truck and his patrol car to try to get a settlement from the company. Ryle ultimately released the trucker unharmed.

POWELL, Wyo. (AP) - Park County Commissioners have turned down a request for a liquor license for the Sleeping Giant Ski Area. One commissioners opposed to the license says Sleeping Giant had been pitched to the public as a family ski area, and that makes alcohol sales inappropriate. Ski area officials say their business will be hurt without a liquor license.

POWELL, Wyo. (AP) - Western Sugar Cooperative growers are scrambling to dig and process more sugar beets since they were damaged by a hard freeze in early October. Under a quota system, growers are allowed to dig another 1.2 tons per contracted acre. That should provide about a week's worth of supply to the Lovell beet processing factory.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Brooks & Dunn will perform July 24 as part of next summer's Cheyenne Frontier Days. The duo says this summer's concert tour will be their last. Other groups playing in Cheyenne include Alan Jackson, Sugarland, Aaron Tippin and Clay Walker.
