IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - Idaho Falls Power is holding a public hearing to look at fees, including an electric rate increase. If approved, this will be the first time rates have gone up since 2013.
This is due to a wholesale rate increase from the Bonneville Power Administration.
"Every two years they adjust their rates. Their rates this year are going up six percent effective October 1st. That equates to over two million dollars per year increase to us. That's a cost that this year we can't absorb," says Bear Prairie, Assistant General Manager of Idaho Falls Power.
For the average customer, the increase will be about 4-dollars on your monthly bill. Other rates are being considered tonight like water and sanitation. The public hearing starts at 7:30 at the Idaho Falls City Council Chambers.
