Sylvester Stallone talks new movie, gun violence

Sylvester Stallone is one of a few action superstars who've been making comebacks on the big screen, like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The "Rocky" star is back as ruthless hit man James Bonomo in his latest crime-thriller, "Bullet to the Head," which opened in theaters on Friday. His character forms an alliance with a Washington, D.C., detective (Sung Kang) to take down a common enemy.

Stallone, who has been in the movie business since the '70s, joked with CNN at the "Bullet to the Head" premiere that he's got nothing new to learn from his young whippersnapper co-stars.

"Nothing, absolutely nothing!" he laughed. "No actually, you know what you get from them? You just want to beat them up! Only because they're competent and they're young, so they bring out your best."

On a more serious note, Stallone reflected on Hollywood's contribution to the country's issue with gun violence - a relevant topic as his "Bullet to the Head" isn't shy about gun use, releasing in the wake of several mass shootings.

"Movies are ridiculous!" Stallone admits. "Can you imagine if we were out there with blunderbusses?"

Despite making violent films, Stallone publicly supports a ban on assault weapons.

"It's really, really a tough position, because you're sitting there and [thinking], what if you make the weapons kind of cute," he says of Hollywood's treatment of guns. "But they're still violent. I don't know, it's complicated."
