IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - Alla and John Muench met while he was in Ukraine with the Peace Corps. She chose to move to America to start a life with him. The couple got married in 2005 in Ukraine and lived there for two years before moving.
The decision came with some promises.
"We had a big family meeting and my husband promised in front of everybody that he would make my life happy," says Alla.
And strict criteria.
"She didn't want earthquakes in California, tsunamis, she didn't want to live in the mountains. She wanted someplace that was flat and had four seasons and potatoes," says John.
12 years later, they still love their home in Idaho Falls.
"It's like my Ukraine place. I know history is everything here and I'm very comfortable," Alla.
She brought a little bit of the Ukraine to Idaho. Alla started a club where people from former Soviet countries can get together.
"I'm so pleased that Alla is connecting with her Ukrainian friends and Russian friends here in Idaho Falls and she has this community and we can share things together we do quite often," John.
The couple often hosts gatherings in the community. If you're interested in joining, you can email John at firstname.lastname@example.org.
