Idaho Fish and Game Regional Conservation Educator hosts last workshop

Last workshop for Idaho Fish and Game Regional Conservation Educator

ISLAND PARK, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - Today, Idaho Fish and Game had its annual "Wild about Winter" workshop at Harriman State Park for teachers around the region. So what makes this one different? Today was the last workshop for the Regional Conservation Educator, as he heads into retirement. Gregg Losinski has been the Regional Conservation Educator in Idaho Falls for 22 years.

"It's all about teaching teachers so they can teach kids. Kids are wonderful but when we teach teachers, there's a multiplier effect and that's what 'project wild' is all about. Teaching teachers not what to think but how to think," says Losinski.

Teachers from the workshop say they've learned a lot from Losinski over the years.

"He just brings a passion to education like anybody that I've met before and he's a really special guy and I've been lucky to learn from him and learn with him," says Bari Bucholz, teacher facilitator, Idaho Fish and Game.

"The classes that I've attended that he's taught have been absolutely enjoyable and have been a wonderful opportunity to take back information to students and teach them about wildlife," says Benjamin Call, education specialist.

"I just want him to know that his passion for his job goes from the class back with me to my classroom and touches 150-200 kids every year," says Janine Remington, life science teacher.

They say it was bittersweet but think he's ready for the next step.

"It's been emotional but I think he's ready for his next path in life but I think he knows that he's touched a lot of people and made a difference in a lot of people's lives. Children and adults, especially teachers," says Bucholz

"I'm very bittersweet because I have enjoyed interacting with the teachers and exposing them to all of the wonderful things Idaho has and it's been a great career and I'm glad there are still so many teachers to pass on what we've given them to use," says Losinski.

Losinski has spent a total of 35 years teaching with the state of Idaho in multiple capacities.
