ITD sets public meeting on Northgate Interchange

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - You will get another chance to comment on the latest plans for the proposed Interstate 15 Northgate Interchange near Chubbuck.

The Idaho Transportation Department has scheduled a public meeting Thursday, January 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Chubbuck City Hall, 5160 Yellowstone Avenue.

The I-15 Northgate Interchange project, formerly known as the Siphon Road Interchange, includes the construction of a bridge over I-15 with interstate highway entrance/exit ramps. Any new local roads connecting the existing local road network to the new interchange will be built by local entities prior to completion of the new interchange.

The interchange will be located approximately three-quarters of a mile north of the Chubbuck Road overpass (milepost 73.5) in Bannock County. Construction could start this year.

In addition to the public meeting, ITD has also posted an online comment portal.  It includes a comment form and map featuring the proposed design. You can access the portal here.

Comments will be accepted through February 4, 2018.

According to ITD, there are three basic needs for the new project:

  • Limited existing access to I-15 north of the I-15/I-86 junction causes out-of-direction travel that contributes to congestion on U.S. 91 (Yellowstone Avenue)
  • Limited existing access to I-15 north of the I-15/I-86 junction is not expected to accommodate the area's projected future growth northeast of Pocatello and Chubbuck in Bannock County
  • Crash rates on U.S. 91 and I-15 in the Pocatello/Chubbuck area exceed statewide averages

Comments can be e-mailed to adam.rush@itd.idaho.gov or greydon.wright@itd.idaho.gov. They also can be mailed to: Idaho Transportation Department, Attn: Adam Rush, 3311 W. State Street, Boise, ID 83703.
